University of Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame du Lac (or simply Notre Dame) is a Catholic research university located in Notre Dame, an unincorporated community north of the city of South Bend, in St. Joseph County, Indiana, United States. The school was founded by Father Edward Sorin, CSC, who was also its first president, and even today many Holy Cross priests serve the school-most notably the president of the university. The university is known for its Notre Dame School of Architecture, a faculty that teaches traditional (pre-modern) architecture and urban planning (e.g. following the principles of New Urbanism).
